On June 1st I headed into Ottawa for one purpose – the new 20th anniversary house editions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone! I have been reading Harry Potter since I was a little girl, and my original copies of the Harry Potter series is so decrepit and well-read that entire passages are missing, covers torn off, and are extremely fragile. Harry Potter, in my youth, weren’t books to be kept on the bookshelf, but rather an extension of my world. I carried, at least, one book with me at all times from the age of nine to seventeen – when the last book came out. My original series have been rained on, snowed on, dropped, chewed by dogs and re-read so often that ink is even starting to come off some of the pages.
I recently repurchased the entire series. It has been years since I last re-read the entire series and I recently decided to dive back in. To memorialize the occasion, I created a hashtag on twitter (#hptweetchallenge) where I will post a tweet per chapter as I read.
While repurchasing the entire series through Indigo.ca, I came across the 20th anniversary edition that were available to pre-order. I was fascinated. I was about to pre-order when I decided to wait and see them in-person to make sure they were actually worth the money. I am a bit of a tight-wallet.
On June 1st I bought the softcover and hardcover version the Hufflepuff edition (Puff Pride baby!). The softcover will be giving to my best friend, and fellow Hufflepuff, on her birthday this summer. The hardcover is for myself. They are fantastic!
There are two minor drawbacks if you are buying this book for its content. The house content contains spoilers. For Hufflepuff, there are things about Cedric Diggory and Nymphadora Tonks. I imagine it is worse for other houses – particularly Slytherin and Gryffindor. Also, if you are an avid potterhead then you might already know the additional information from Pottermore. I haven’t checked word-for-word, but I already knew all the information in the book. However, it is the perfect gift for my friend, who loves the books, but hasn’t delved into the extra content. I can’t wait to see her face when she opens this book!
Side note: I am an alumni from Dalhousie University and I love that my university colors are the same as my house colors! It was meant to be. Also, if you order online from indigo in Canada – I also picked up this candle for a steal!
